Geophysical Cell

Geophysical cell is having resistivity meters, aqua meters, scintillometers, total field magnetometers, logger with short normal, long normal, self-potential, caliper, natural gamma ray and fluid sampler probes and IP Unit. With the above equipments the Cell is capable to undertake ground geophysical survey for graphite, ground water, bed rock depth study, vein quartz identification, fracture zone identification etc. During 2016-17 geophysical survey for basemetal mineralization to the north of Kesharpur in Mayurbhanj district has been done and SP anomaly indicates probable occurrences of sulphide mineralisation in the area.

Some of the important assignments completed by the Geophysical Cell of the Directorate of Geology are:
  • Geophysical Exploration of galena and gold in various parts of the state
  • Groundwater Exploration in many parts of the State including Bhubaneswar, Balangir, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Jajpur, Phulbani, Nayagarh etc.
  • Coal in-crop studies in Gopal Prasad area of Talcher Coalfields
  • Exploration for graphite in Phulbani, Balangir and Rayagada
  • Quartz vein studies in Kendujhar
