The Directorate of Geology undertakes systematic geological survey and exploration of minerals/ore for augmentation of state’s mineral resources which are essential for rapid development of mineral based industries of the state. The Directorate of Geology emerged as a separate entity after the bifurcation of the erstwhile Directorate of Mining and Geology during 1997. The Directorate of Mining and Geology was originally created as Director of Mines in 1955.
Survey and Exploration of Mineral Deposits
The Directorate of Geology undertakes various mineral exploration programmes as per field guidelines of UNFC and as finalized in the State Geological Programming Board for major minerals like iron ore, manganese, chromite, bauxite, basemetal, limestone, graphite, coal, gemstone and minor minerals like dolomite, china clay, pyrophyllite, decorative stones, quartz and quartzite etc in the state..
